The Quote:
The quote, “We were the last generation to play outside precisely because we didn’t have smartphones and laptops. We learned from movement, hands-on interaction, and we absorbed information through books and socialization with other humans as opposed to a Google search.” explains how back in the day there wasn't such thing as “Screen Addiction” and instead of spending hours of social media websites and chatting to online friends, children would go play outside or tell creative stories (something our generation lacks very much). Although this quote does not resonate with me on a great scale, it’s a reminder telling me that too much of something is never a good thing.
NY Times Article:
This article really opened my eyes to discover the dangers of the internet. Not only does it impact our relationship and deprive us from social contact, but as time passes, it will lead us down a lonely and depressing path with which I hope to never come across. To be honest, I found it very surprising to be informed that the majority of technology chief executives and venture capitalists such as Steve Jobs, limited their children consummation of electronic devices. Although I’m not restricted to my use of “screen time”, I will be scolded and given long lectures about my life if I do choose to consume a lot of time on my phone. In the future, if I may have kids they will be restricted from using electronics to maybe an hour of fun time a day (no homework online included). Except they will be forbidden to own or have access to to any social media account so they won't be able to make the same semi-addiction as I have. Hopefully this will create enough balance so that my daughter(s) and/or son(s) can just “be kids” but not too much to lead into internet addiction when I no longer have control over their lives.

Are You Addicted To Your Screen Devices?:
If you think about it, the majority of our population today is controlled by electronic devices such as the Apple IPhone and Microsoft computers. However what is the limit of our screen time consumption, and how could we possible figure it out? These gadgets are all fun and games until what you thought to be harmless, useful machines ruin your life entirely.
Whenever a technology company releases a new creation, it looks like it needs more time and focus. Too few people who used these devices when bored or comfort, now is believed to have a serious addiction. This problem is named “Screen Addiction”. Rapidly spreading throughout countries like Australia, Korea, China and Taiwan as stated by Dr. Kimberly Young, to be progressing. Dr. Young from the Center for Internet Addiction has built a rehab center for people who suffer this kind of addiction at the Bradford Regional Medical Center in the west side of Pennsylvania. With all the cyber-bullying, online strangers to chat too, who knows what kind of trouble teens can fall into.
As the news circulates, up to 41 states in the U.S. and the District of Columbia has enforced laws in hopes to have an end to texting while driving.
This so called “Screen Addiction” was noticed when sometime in October of 2013. It happens in a train filled with passengers who didn’t seem to pay attention to an obviously armed man till they heard a gunshot losing a person’s life in the process.
“We really need to start opening the public’s eye to how many hours we dedicate to our gadgets a day and the downfall of it all in general” says Young. Dr. Jesse Suh of Center For Studies of Addiction concurs explaining that “The key is really to just find your balance”. There are actually many tests in order to see your usage of technology. In most cases, youngsters could be wasting lots of time not knowing the problems that come with it as stated by Jesse. He recommends that families have strict rules around how much time their kids spend on technology.
